at the edges of graphene nanoribbons (.pdf) It has been claimed that zigzag edges of graphene nanoribbons are magnetically polarized. I will give an almost rigorous proof of this remarkable result for the Hubbard model on a honeycomb lattice and discuss how the magnetism is suppressed as the Hamiltonian is modified.
