16h30 Sala Celeste Rainer Sommer Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) Strong coupling and strange quark mass from lattice QCD (.pdf) We
give an introduction to an advanced technique for a lattice computation
of the strong coupling constant at high energies. A recent computation
is discussed, including the determination of the the mass of the
strange quark in 2-flavor QCD. Discretization errors of the lattice
results are removed by careful continuum extrapolations and
perturbation theory is used only where alpha is approximately equal to
0.1. We discuss further improvements which will reduce the uncertainties considerably.
