INCT

The Institutos Nacionais de Ciência e Tecnologia is an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), brokered by CNPq, FAPESP and CAPES, and has ambitious and comprehensive goals in national terms as the possibility of mobilizing and aggregating, in an articulated manner, the best research groups in areas frontiers of science and in strategic areas for the sustainable development of the country; boosting internationally competitive basic and fundamental scientific research; stimulate the development of cutting-edge scientific and technological research associated with applications to promote innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit, in close articulation with innovative companies, in the areas of the Brazilian System of Technology (Sibratec).

Our national center intends to take a significant leap in scientific research that we carry out, adding the capacity to transform our main knowledge into platforms of great technological value and with great social responsibility to help accelerate the economy and promote solutions to some health problems and improvements in agriculture. More specifically, we will work on converting basic science knowledge into platforms for disease diagnosis, microbiological control, cancer treatment, "home care" diagnosis, agricultural pest treatment and detection, disease vector control, food traceability and incorporation of nanofabrication in the development of new vascular stents for widespread vascular use. All using optical techniques. In a sense, this proposal complements the excellence we have created over several years. Do science with good quality and intend to stay that way. In addition, we intend to create a national network that can translate and transform our scientific knowledge into highly relevant technologies. To achieve this goal, we intend to establish procedures in our research laboratory to make our researchers more participatory and collaborative with the productive sector. Several partner companies should be part of this effort, providing co-financing (counterpart) for projects and, at the same time, making it possible to translate science into products that represent solutions to many problems in our society. Our main focus is the area of optics and its applications to solve problems in the health and agriculture sectors, which are of great social need and, at the same time, of great economic importance. We want to transform the technology landscape in these areas related to optical applications in general. For this, we need to continue doing basic research work in the area, in order to generate the necessary support for this advance. The network to be created involves competencies and places that will be highly benefited by this project. The objectives are magnanimous and closely aligned with the program's strategic areas, which could only be achieved within a national coverage of programs such as this one. It is part of our objectives to strengthen our work within the state of São Paulo, but also to extrapolate our experiences throughout Brazil, in order to proliferate the way we do science and seek results to advance the basic knowledge that lead to new technologies.
